And just like that… it’s February!
Hopefully, you are now comfortably in 2018. While this is a short month, it is packed full of opportunities to engage with your ERAU-W colleagues and the RCTLE staff, as well as to participate in a great virtual conference! Read on for more information.
Attend the Transforming the Teaching & Learning Environment Conference!
Your RCTLE has purchased an institutional registration for the upcoming Transforming the Teaching & Learning Environment Virtual Conference. This conference offers over 60 one-hour live and interactive sessions you can attend for free from the comfort of your own home! The sessions begin at 9 am PST on Monday, February 12th and will run each weekday until Friday, February 23rd.
Review the schedule of sessions to see the topics that will be covered. To attend a session, click on the link to the right of the session title under the “Join Session” column at its scheduled date and time. All session times are based on the Pacific time zone, so you may need to adjust the times as necessary to meet your specific time zone. When asked to type your name, please include your first name, last name, and institution (ERAU). We will be posting daily announcements with the day’s sessions as well. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out!
February’s EV-Anar: Using Screen Recordings to Enhance Student Learning
Screen recording tools can be used to record short presentations to supplement course materials or provide students with an example or explanation of a problem. How does this work and how can you implement this in your course? Come join Dr. Antoinette Davis, an Adjunct Assistant Professor in Mathematics, during our February EV-Anar as she discusses strategies for using screen recording in order to enhance the learning experience for your students.
This session will be offered:
- Tuesday, February 20th at 10 am ET
- Tuesday, February 20th at 8 pm ET
- Thursday, February 22nd at 2 pm ET
You can access this event from the RCTLE EagleVision Room!
Teaching Tip: Check your Canvas Notification Preferences!
It’s been several years since we’ve transitioned over to Canvas, which means it may have been several years since you last checked your Canvas Notification Preferences! Your notification preferences are tied to your account, which means they will apply to all Canvas courses you are enrolled in.
Your RCTLE recommends setting those most important notifications, such as when students send a Canvas message, add a comment to your grading feedback, or when courses you’re enrolled in post announcements to be sent to you Right Away. This will help you make sure those important notifications don’t get missed! Also, this may be a great opportunity to remind your students to verify their notification preferences as well so they are getting any important course communications from you!
Want to Chat?
This month’s office hours will be held on Wednesday, February 28th at 2 pm ET in the RCTLE EagleVision Room. January’s office hours included some great questions about providing quality announcements, encouraging your students to read (and use) your feedback, and creating videos to motivate your students to finish the term strong. Even if you don’t have a question, come for the conversation!
In our February 2018 discussion, we’ll talk about other tools you may use to enhance student learning. We look forward to your thoughts!
Would you like to schedule a one-on-one consultation as you prepare for the February or March term? We’d be happy to meet with you! Contact us at the information below to schedule a time.
