As we approach the end of the first quarter of 2020, you may be wondering where the time has gone. Before you go into overdrive, support is a call or email away. The Rothwell Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence (RCTLE) offers multiple levels of support. Our college-specific RCTLE teams provide resources, guidance, and support before, during and after teaching. The RCTLE Team is your first point of contact as you prepare to teach. Faculty Quality Managers and Faculty Developers work in concert with you so expect to hear from us throughout the term. We will walk with you through challenges and celebrate successes as you teach. We will serve as your go-to for training and professional development in the realm of teaching and technology.

Virtual Faculty Learning Community
Taking advantage of professional development opportunities is an excellent strategy for education professionals to develop valuable connections, exchange innovative ideas, share best practices, and learn new skills. Faculty are cordially invited to participate in the Spring 2020 Virtual Faculty Learning Community – “What Is My Teaching Philosophy.” This virtual experience is open to ALL Faculty and will run for 6 weeks: Monday, April 6, 2020- Sunday, May 18, 2020.
Faculty will learn:
- What a teaching philosophy entails
- How to develop your own teaching philosophy and articulate it
- The importance of your teaching philosophy and sharing it with your colleagues
- New ideas from interesting weekly discussion topics
- How to create and submit your personal teaching philosophy

Tip Clip: Improving End Of Course Faculty Observations Through Student Feedback
Consider this scenario. It is the last week of your Online Course. You feel fantastic. Your grade book is current with one last assessment to administer. You feel a sense of accomplishment about the fast approaching completion of your course. You post the final Announcement to encourage students to participate. You have 20+ years of experience and when you review the results you experience a sense of shock and disbelief. You wonder why students are so negative about your teaching. Collecting student feedback during your course is a prime opportunity to gain insight on where students stand with learning the material. It also gives faculty data on adjustments to make prior to the term ending. In this Tip Clip, RCTLE provides tips on strategies to improve the outcome of your End of Course observation. Carving time out to take care of our mental, emotional, and physical health has become a priority. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), employee burnout has recently been recognized as an official medical diagnosis (Haden, 2020). Self-care is vital to the prevention of burnout, particularly for people in health and education professions. Long periods of neglect of mental, emotional, and physical well-being may result in high levels of stress. In a recent article, “Battling burnout: cultivating an atmosphere of self-care in education,” job burnout is described as work-related stress that may involve a sense of reduced accomplishment and loss of personal identity (Moore 2019).
