November is Aviation History Month
Ten years ago, on November 14, Dr. Bruce A. Rothwell unexpectedly passed away. Dr. Rothwell was an avid supporter of lifelong learning, earning a Master of Aeronautical Science in 2005 at the age of 55. His ties to Embry-Riddle began while he served in the U. S. Air Force. In 1992, he began teaching as an adjunct professor. Six years later, he retired from active duty, after 30 years of service, as a Major and entered into academia full-time.
Dr. Rothwell taught courses in the area of Leadership, Management, and Technology. His academic interests were in the management of the airline industry, public regulation, logistics, and personnel management. He had a passion for teaching and really cared about the students. He always wanted to make it right.
During his time at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, he rose quickly through the academic ranks serving as the Undergraduate Arts and Sciences Department Chairman, the Department Chairman for General Education, the Program Chairman for Institutional Effectiveness, the Worldwide Associate Regional Dean, and the Worldwide Central Regional Dean. Today, the Bruce A. Rothwell Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence stands in tribute of his seventeen years of service to the University.
