September EV-Anar – Part 2: Instructional Presence

In April, Emily Faulconer, Assistant Professor and Discipline Chair of the Department of Math, Physical and Life Sciences shared Part 1: Personalizing the Online Learning Experience.

Especially in asynchronous online courses, there is a focus on personalizing the online learning experience so that students feel more connected to their instructor and peers. One strategy is to develop a strong instructional presence. This month, join Emily to explore a few strategies for developing instructional presence through announcements, feedback, and checkpoints.  

This EV-Anar will be hosted live on:

  • Tuesday, September 18 @ 8 AM ET
  • Thursday, September 20 @ 2 PM ET

The RCTLE Annual Survey is open until September 7th.  This is a great chance for you to tell us what you think about our current offerings and provide suggestions for future ones. Please take a couple of minutes to share your thoughts with us.

Exciting Opportunity

For the past two years, your RCTLE team has offered a Virtual Faculty Learning Community (V-FLC).  A V-FLC is a great way to connect with your peers around the world to chat about the issues that are important to you and share valuable resources. 

This past year, our V-FLC focused on effective feedback practices. Each participant ended the experience by developing their own Feedback Philosophies.  These were compiled to create a useful resource for everyone. Check out the Virtual Community of Practice Feedback Philosophies infographic.

This year, our V-FLC will focus on “Loving What You Do (Because You Spend A Lot Of Time Doing It)”. We will discuss topics related to (re)igniting your passion for teaching, maintaining momentum throughout the year and avoiding burnout. This will be a 6-week interactive experience beginning on September 24th.  There are NO ASSIGNMENTS, just opportunities to chat with your colleagues. If you are interested in participating, please send an email to Registration will close on Friday, September 21st.

There are so many great things happening in ERAU-W courses around the world. 

Join our office hours in the RCTLE EagleVision Room on September 26th @ 11 AM ET.

Share the strategies you use to help students feel more connected to you, their peers and the course content in this month’s discussion on the RCTLE eUnion.

Remember, there are a number of other discussions open each month.  So, come and share your thoughts or ask your questions and get feedback from your peers around the world.
